Summary:
The Engineering Manager aligns with marketing, sales, operations, finance, and others across the organization in leading the research, development and implementation of business solutions, and interacts closely with customers and suppliers towards the advancement of new and legacy products.
Essential Functions:
Leadership and Management:
Lead, manage and provide guidance towards Engineering Departmental processes and procedures.
Lead and manage the New Product Development and Innovation group.
Activities include but are not limited to:
o Recording or assigning the recording of meeting minutes o Creating meeting agendas o Scorecard management o Financial flash analysis o Ideation coordination o VOC visits with key accounts o Building and maintaining an innovation pipeline for current and future development.
Recruiting and selection, training, development, motivation, guidance, performance management, and other activities related to departmental employees.
Mold Activity:
Manage new mold design, build, quoting, procurement, qualification, and validation.
Manage existing mold issues through a controlled engineering change process.
Facilitate mold continuous improvement initiatives.
Manage new mold vendors/suppliers/manufacturers.
Manage design, project timelines either internal or external to facilitate successful execution.
New Product and Business Development:
Lead, direct and manage the development, qualification and validation of new product designs and existing product design refresh.
Manage the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process including but not limited to customer visits, establishment of capital requirements, costing, pricing recommendations, concept generation and renderings.
Collaborate with marketing and sales to develop project proposals and plans; determine scheduling, procedures and resource requirements.
Manufacturing and Technical Processes and Procedures:
Designs plastic injection tooling, aerospace tooling, and production fixturing.
Creates 3D models, 2D drawings, BOM, Gantt charts, process sheets.
Leads projects, sets expectations, engages, guides, and provides support to toolmakers and CNC programmers in order to meet project deadlines.
Leads DFM meetings to ensure that the customer's technical needs operations' performance needs are met.
Develops and coordinates tool due diligence to ensure manufacturability.
Supports tool shop activity to ensure fabrication is to specifications, process needs, cost requirements and schedules.
Supports injection molding with fixtures, gages, end of arm tooling (EOAT), and other basic tool support.
Leads root cause analysis efforts and defines cost reduction plans.
Coordinates and conducts tool trials for process development and prototype supply.
Evaluates potential engineering changes to the products and what tooling changes are required, implements tool design models and drawings as required.
Defines the critical criteria required for primary equipment specification and quotation, including material handling equipment, tonnage, and special construction requirements.
Develops, proposes and implements tooling and equipment improvements to foster an environment of continuous improvement.
Performs necessary functions to adhere to ISO standards.
Provides Quality Department with documentation and models for inspection purposes.
Reports on all process development and tool design activities relative to achieving targets, risks and deficiencies to project team and management.
Supports sales and quoting activity.
Qualifications:
7
years of proven experience in new product development, innovation, broad spectrum engineering management and leadership role within the injection molding industry.
A Bachelor of Science degree in a related field of Engineering is required.
Advanced degree in Engineering or Management is preferred.
Plastics Industry experience is required (7 Years Minimum).
Forward thinking engineering leader experienced in the design and advancement of new technologies and solid breadth of experience with manufacturing engineering and processes.
High level of experience and success managing, coaching and mentoring technically adept professional level employees.
Excellent listening skills.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Strategic thinker along with a high level of aptitude in understanding and processing technical language.
Ability to successfully work collaboratively with internal and external resources and customers.

Proficient in CAD and other design software.
Ability to view a computer screen for long periods of time.
Experienced in design disciplines including but not limited to Design of Experiments, Finite Element Analysis techniques, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
Proven ability to create, compose and edit written materials that are presentation-ready, aesthetically pleasing and highly effective.
A high level of trustworthiness and the ability to achieve integrity on all levels.
Highly professional image and the ability to effectively represent the company both externally and internally.
